Lonjsko Polje (the
Lonja Field) national reserve is a habitat to a large stork population
and also an intersection of major stork migration paths on their journey
from Europe to Africa. Every year in late August thousands of storks gather
here to rest before the next step the crossing of the Mediterranean sea.
Therefore, the preserving of Lonjsko Polje is of great importance. Apart
from storks, the field is also home to various wildlife and is especially
famous for it's semi-feral bore-pig crossbreds, bred by local inhabitants.
People and nature
have always lived here (together) adapting to each other in mutual respect. |
